Pineapple Inn

Is this walking distance to the downtown area? Not our top choice, but since it%26#39;s only for 1 nite ... our other choice is staying at a B%26amp;B but 1/2 hr away. Dont know what%26#39;s the better choice? Im worried about parking in Newport b/c we do want to meander about before and after dinner?

Pineapple Inn

Not a good choice....not within walking distance to anything, it%26#39;s an older Motel style place that rents by the month in the off season. The Motel 6 down the street is a better choice, as well as other cheaper options in Middletown, But they are not walking distance to town either.

When are you planning on coming?

Pineapple Inn

we will only be there for 1 nite. we%26#39;re driving fr. nj early fri morn. and will check out the mansions and cliff walk 1st. then check-in and spend the late aft/eve in town. by next morning we%26#39;re off to cape cod. not many affordable B%26amp;Bs on mem.day wkend; i found one in warwick but thought that was too far?

I just saw that the Motel 6 has rooms for $89. I%26#39;d take that over the Pineapple Inn (BTW there is nothing quaint about the Pineapple Inn despite their using the word ';Inn';) If all your looking for is a place to sleep, the Motel 6 is fine. The Friday of Memorial Day won%26#39;t be super busy, and you could easily drive to the mansions and Cliff Walk and find free parking around there. You can also park at the Visitors Center for a discount, and take thee trolleys around town.

Most places, especially B%26amp;Bs are probably holding onto their 2 or 3 night minimum hoping for a busy weekend.

yes this is definitely true about the B%26amp;Bs. i am surprised that u prefer the motel 6 over the pineapple in - any specific reason why? ... at this point we%26#39;re not going to be too picky since it%26#39;s just for the nite and we will be out and about for most of the time. my other option, like i mentioned is possibly staying at a B%26amp;B in windsor, wh/ i believe is about 1/2 hr away? not sure for a holiday wkend what%26#39;s better - Since we plan on eating and walking around Newport FRI - is it expected to be very busy b/c of the holiday wkend? are reservations needed for both lunch and dinner?

The Pineapple in is an old tired motel (rooms are accessed directly from the parking lot) and is often used for weekly and monthly rentals in the off season. It%26#39;s on a very busy road next to one of the entrances to the Navy Base. It%26#39;s not that it%26#39;s dangerous or anything, it%26#39;s just past it%26#39;s prime (if it ever really had one) I stayed there once in 1985...from the looks on the outside, I doubt it%26#39;s changed very much.

It%26#39;s not that I LOVE the Motel 6, I was just using it as an alternative to the Pineapple Inn.

What is your budget for lodging?

The Friday of Memorial Day Weekend won%26#39;t be too busy, you won%26#39;t need reservations for lunch (might have a slight wait at the more popular restaurants like Brick Alley) If you know where you want to eat for Dinner, go ahead and make a reservqation, but if not, don%26#39;t worry about it...at worst you%26#39;ll have a little bit of a wait.
